A couple things. First, Pushka wrote: "If fans or members of the band or any of their subsidiaries or marketing branches want to post reviews, the status of the reviewer and their affiliation should be clear."
I'm wondering if this is about me, since I post reviews and have been writing of late for Hittin' the Note. Trust me, no one gets rich doing that, not unless you can really score by selling your complimentry copies on eBay. I mostly just give 'em to my friends and my mom. She keeps it on the coffee table right next to Arthritis Today.
Outside of that there isn't much to disclose; the primary perq of doing these articles, outside of just getting to do them and see them in print, is you get to hit the band up for back stage passes, the primary perq of which is short men's room lines at intermission.
Let me disclose for the record then, that as a result of the band's good graces, I get to piss quick.
Second, on OWO: I don't want to say too much because my upcoming article in HTN is actually supposed to be a review of it, so I feel I owe it to the good people at HTN not to shoot my load here. But the way I see it, this band is new and merits documentation. The fact that the ABB have put out a lot of live stuff doesn't make it any less logical to document this current aggregation live. I mean, how many live Miles Davis albums are there?
Honestly, I can't for the life of me fathom why anyone would have a problem with the music that is being made. I don't pay much attention to the "who did what to whom," behind the scenes stuff, simply because I don't think it is any of my business, although obviously I can see where it could color some folks' perceptions, especially when you're involved. In a sense, as a fan I have the luxury of just sitting back and letting my ears do the talking, and that's what I try to do.
And I'll tell you what. Between the ABB, the DTB, Mule, Lesh & Friends, the Dead, and Great Southern, not to mention bands like the one I have cranked right now (Deep Fried, 3/26 with Warren; yowza!) if you aren't letting your ears do your talking, I'd heartliy urge you give it a try.
I know Ron E. knows what I'm saying.
Lastly, I just want to say as a relative newcomer to active duty in the guest book, that I'm enjoying it. A lot of passionate writing, from all sides, about something I am passionate in writing about. Oh, and I'd be totally remiss if I didn't wave and give a shout out to my honorary NYC homegirl, Lana.
