Growing up in Toronto in the late 60's ,we saw a lot of Rompin Ronnie Hawkins and his then back up band ,the Hawks. The southern touch would come from Ronnie and Levon ,of course. Absoutely one of the best shows I ever had the luck to catch was the Dylan/Band tour in '74.My sister scooped 8th.row tix by a mail-in lottery. The Band did a set,Dylan did a set then they did a set together.Stunning night of music.I remember they had the stage set up with old furniture and tiffany lamps and it looked like a big old hippie living room.Levon had his old wooden drum set and they had a second set of traps and I think it was Beak ( Manuel) who played 'em.They spent a lot of that night jumping around on various instruments, amazing skill .Garth is from the town I've called home since '71 and Manuel and Danko were from small Southwestern Ontario towns within a hour's drive.Robbie is originally from the Six Nations Reserve . Have a read through This Wheels On Fire, a sad and funny story with a lot of similarities to Midnight Riders. On a Band related note, anybody here a fan of the Cate Brothers Band? I have 3-4 of their albums, twin brothers with the drummer ,Terry Cagle, being Levon's nephew I believe. He played a bit with the post RR Band .Have not heard anything of the Cates in years.Levon played a bit with them as well I think . Before I go, Happy Birthday to BO.The Driving Force behind the original 6 and the man most responsible for the Brotherhood aspect of ABB.
