The post about the Last Waltz reminded me of a great show I saw in the early 90's at the Lonestar roadhouse in NYC. It was billed as Rick Danko with special guest Gregg Allman. I had heard of the Band, but I was going to see Gregg. Gregg was behind the Hammond for the first few numbers and eventually he picked up his acoustic and stepped up to the front of the stage and the crowd screamed for Melissa, Rick shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't know how to play it so he went to the bar and got hammered. Gregg took the whole show over and Danko never came back. Gregg pulled an unknown fat kid with a harmonica out of the crowd (John Popper) and grabbed a few members of the opening band and put on an all night jam. I was able to meet and take pictures with Gregg and even got a chance to sit at the Hammond between sets. He aslso signed the centerfold picture of the ABB from the book in my Dreams Box Set He wrote "Bon Ton Roulette" Gregory Lemoine Allman... which I believe loosely translates to "Let the Good Times Roll" It was a great night I'll never forget.
