I got shot up by the V C from about five feet away and lived. I will survive the face slaps here. Sorry that my post offended so many minds that can't handle what someone else thinks just because it does not go along with the way they think. All I can say is I have been to the top of the mountain and do not want to back down. Its not the past that I was talking about. Its the present with references to the past to substantiate what I was saying. Take Chucks solo in Jessica. He comes in smoking because the song is smoking. He did not break it down to the bottom and start over. That makes it so much harder to get back to where the groove was. I never said or made reference that the guitar players were bad. I said, I thought, my opinion, that they came in on the down side instead of coming in like Chuck did in Jessica. Sometimes this is good, when it fits, but I say again there is to much of this and the feel of the song goes away. I was not cutting Brother Gregg down. I was saying what he needs to do. People around him tell him what he wants to hear and not what he should hear. I am sure, or hope his wife will read my post and tell him. I love the way he sings, but he is not giving his best and I know it. I was at his solo gig in Jacksonville, just before my departure and he sounded like I said. he sounded rough with his vocals and no air. To the guy who said he can talk about shuffles and feel, structure of music and all. Emotion in his voice is what I am talking about. Its not there, or I should say it comes and goes. More on the goes part. Listen to Warren. Its there. Greggs is on the back burner. You can doctor a lot of things up in the studio and it sounds good. Its hard to cover it up at the gigs and that is what I am going by. My ears grave to hear the canaries come out of his mouth. -- Its an art to put Jazz in the hard driving Allman music. Its been in there from the beginning. Its just that its a little over done and not in the groove. Its great music, but just needs to be channeled better. People are right, its still some of the best music around, its just that it could be the best, like it used to. Getting old has nothing to do with it. This band individually is a lot better as a musician than they have ever been. I just feel like it could be better and should be better as the Allman Brothers band. If a lot of the things, a lot of you are saying is true, then people should be knocking the doors down to get in the gigs. Facts are facts. I did not mean to step on toes. I just gave an opinion like a lot of you did. Why do you feel that I need to be slapped or put in my place? I love music just like you people. I will say I never put Duane or Dickey's, up against someone else's playing. Although I will say that they laid down the lesson board for others to pick up on it. Not sound like it. Method of playing the music is what I go by. Like someone said this ant high school and all the philosophy in the world will not change what I said. Only the band can do that. I do hope you all have a great time at the Beacon and know the music will be good. Kick the doors down and rock the night away. No matter how we feel about all this we still must SUPPORT THE TROOPS. Vote for Nader. I know there will be a comment or two about voting for Nader. Please lead with the left. The right is to heavy. Both my cheeks are already red. Love to all.
