OK, listened to PATB. I find similarities in it to Wipe The Windows..... At the time that got pretty bad press. Also was put down on the mix, and so-so performances. Exactly the PATB rap... Now in retrospect, people like Windows........
I see the same (to a lesser degree for sure) with PATB.
The mix is not too great. The music is actually not as bad as I first thought, pretty enjoyable at times. A great High Falls. It is in line with the audience stuff from 2000..... and I was there too, a good representation. The band was a different band, Derek was playing more subdued than now. The lyrical Dickey guitar is there and the long sustained notes of his are there, two things not in the mix now..... (not just DB, but the lyrical melodic riffs he is famous for).
In listening "between the lines", I hear a bit of a tired band, a bit of a band not happy. Even Seven Turns has a more sad quality than other versions, it seems. Hearing what seems like th entire Beacon sing along to Seven Turns was a bit of a sad moment for me too. Hey, it wasn't so bad for everyone there!
Is it the piece of garbage I first thought: NO. Is it a highlight of their catalog: NO. Will I play it again: YES.
I think time will put this CD in a slightly better light than we now put it in. The mix is what initially turned me off. Just like windows. Recalibrate the stereo a bit, EQ and stuff and it brings it out better (like Windows also).
