On an unrelated note, an occasional GB thread that I've seen is 'good music to work out to.' I worked out along with the final show at the Fillmore East (06.27.71) today. Really did the trick.
There's some very impassioned playing...Dickey's steps on the One Way Out (which made it to Eat a Peach); the end of Duane's Liz Reed solo is far and away the angriest guitar playing I've ever heard; Berry's bass, larger than life... tons of highlights.
The sound is crisp, you pick up on a lot of the details. And since this was broadcast on the radio, I thought I could actually tell when Tom Dowd was adjusting the mix. Even Bill Graham's intro is great.
If they were this hot here, with a small crowd made up mostly of music industry types, I can only imagine how great they were that morning, when they played from about 2:30 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. Somebody prove me right- Kirk, Graham Estate, somebody!?
This is where someone with a burner would offer up a B&P of this show. Maybe someday. Anyway, make sure to check this out if you've got it, and if you don't, I recommend trying to track it down. Peace. --Marley
