Give Dangerous Dan a break. Last time I saw the DBB, Dan was on fire. I think he sounded too much like Dickey in the 80's and it must of been hard to be the first guitarist to fill the Duane spot. His sound now is very different. He also seems like a nice guy. I think the way the band sounded in the 80's had to do with the whole picture not just Dan and Rook. I agree that Jack is amazing as well. Listen to him on Dreams circa 98. Wow. The beauty of all this is that you can listen to the same songs from say 70, 81, 90, 94, 98 and 02 and it will all sound unique within the song structures. That's what I say when people ask me why I need so many live tapes and CD's of the Allmans and Dead. The One for Woody show was awesome because it was Jimmy and Warren filling in for Derek. That's a combo , I'm really looking forward to seeing this summer with the dead. Hope Weir doesn't cut into the solos too early with his unorthodox (in a good way) chords ! I'm not sure if this is correct but I think I heard Tommy Malone from the Subdudes is Dave Malone from the Radiator's younger brother. If you've seen the Rads you would agree nobody seems to have a better time playing live Rock N Roll than Dave. I've heard good things about the Subdudes. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for listening to my 2 cents. What a great country!
