How can a guitar solo not be self indulgent? If you are an improvisor, in any genre, your music is introspective and self indulgent, regardless if you're playing fast, slow, or any which way. In any ensemble, you're tuned into your fellow musicians, but if you're trying to create, how is it possible not to be self indulgent? Now on the other hand, music critics, such as Michael Little from the Washington Post, are almost always self indulgent, all knowing, pompous pr*cks.
