Hey now Goliath - Thanks so much for taking the time to post your most excellent review of last night's show! It was great to see you Miss Elf on your special night -- and what a special night it was! The dTb keeps setting the bar higher and higher and higher and higher and ... you get the idea. I felt the same thing you did: "The opening notes to Teri Sahib>Maki>Teri provided me a moment of crystal clear clarity, the first of several. I am hearing the unadultered tone of some far higher entity, one that is very pleased to be so worshipped." Beautiful words, my friend. The feeling is transcendence. Of course, adding Jimmy Herring to the mix moved the whole experience to the level of Shock and Awe. There is a special connection between Jimmy and Derek -- the way they play guitar together is phenomenal. I would have said indescribable, except you did a masterful job here: "High energy and uptempo. An amazing thing, Derek and Jimmy were 'trading fours', Jimmy would play a phrase, Derek would answer, etc...but instead of answering, Derek would continue the phrase. Then Jimmy, then Derek, then....well, you get the picture. One long line, or phrase, two guitars, one mind." Watching the interplay of the two was pure guitar bliss -- I felt like I was in music heaven. The joy from the stage was palpable, as Jimmy and Derek couldn't seem to wipe the grins from their faces. We were treated to the spectacle of two absolute Masters at the top of their craft communicating at a level few are privileged to see. This is the longest that they have played together since the 2000 summer tour. It was family night at the Variety last night -- the entire Trucks clan was in the house, Derek's mom, dad, brothers, and sister. Jimmy's wife and kids watched from the side of the stage. Plus so many GBers were in the house that I felt immersed in famABBly. Thanks to these musicians for making nights like this possible.
