Picking up on what Scott said, I've been preaching for years in favor of a quarter-final playoff system for the NCAA football. And it would be relatively easy to integrate it into the BCS system by simply adding 3 more bowls. Ya gotta add the Cotton Bowl, to re-establish it in its rightful spot as one of the major bowls. The Cotton used to be one of the "big 4" but got dissed by the BCS because of antiquated facilities, but I hear Dallas is pushing to renovate it anyway. Even though the Peach Bowl is a 2nd-tier bowl game, it's got the facilities to handle a BCS bowl. I would say add the Citrus Bowl, since that once used to be important pre-BCS, but that's in an old stadium too. So my next vote would be the Gator Bowl, if the Citrus is deemed "inadequate," since it's a relatively major bowl and that stadium was completely re-built in the early-90s to accommodate the NFL Jaguars. Another option would be the Outback Bowl in Tampa, which is held at the Bucs' brand new stadium, if there is an uproar over playing indoors and/or on turf at the Peach Bowl....though three BCS bowls in Florida might be a bit over the top. Anyway, get 7 bowls and rotate the championships every year and you can use the current bowl system for a quarter-final playoff system. All the non-BCS bowls could remain as consolation prizes for the decent teams who don't make it into the top 8. 8 teams is plenty for a playoff too. Even at number 7 or 8, a school really can't say they're *entitled* to a shot at the championship, let alone a number 9, 10 or 20 school. So go with 8 teams, start the playoff in mid-December after exams finish up and you're done well before the Super Bowl (as far as concerns about potential television competition). It would only take 4 weeks to run through a quarter-final, so you're done by the Saturday in January that falls around the 7th-10th. See? Problem solved. Please elect me as your king. Next up: axe-ing the DH in American League baseball and putting the jump-ball back in college basketball. :bounce:
