Hello Peach Folks,
Wonderful banter about Frank Zappa.
Flo and Eddie(the Turtles) were awseome with Frank in the early 70,s. The Filmore has Flo and Eddie as the singers in that band.
Flo and Eddie had a band in 1976 that played the Mississippi River Festival in Edwardsville, Illinois. There album was called "Illegal, Immoral, and Fattening". They were fantastic.
I only got to see Zappa about 6 times from 1973- 1981. Outstanding every time. He played at Braden auditorium in Normal, Illinois all six times. Seeing Frank smoke cigs and drink coffee while conducting his band was the best. Oh, Yea!, he smoked on guitar.
Zappa fans will remember the song "Black Napkins" which is on the Zoot Allures album as being a awesome guitar song with only 2 chords. I luckily play in a band in which the guitar player(Ken) can handle all of Franks guitar licks and we usually play "Black Napkins" as a opener.
Also I remember Adrian Belew(King Crimson's guitar player) dressed up as a nurse on stage with Frank's band in 1978 singing a Bob Dylan song. Pure comedy and great playing with Frank's band.
We all miss Frank like he was family.
His family released a Frank Zappa live DVD/audio called Halloween 1978. It just smokes!. He loved Halloween!
If anyone would like to listen to Frank's music. This Halloween show has a little of everything in it.
Long Live Frank!, Charlie
Hot Tuna the 14th of December in Madison, WI at "Luthers". I hope that guitar player in Madison will make it out to the show. I will be there.
