Good morning,
Easy Michael, "American Beauty" is a classic. As you may recall "Workingman's Dead" and American Beauty" were the Grateful Dead's incredible creative time period for song writing. Both cd's sound incredible after Mickey Hart remixed them into the 5.1 format. Garcia and band sound clearer listening to the 5.1 system. The seperation of the instruments and voice send these cd's into a class of there own.
A side note about awesome Live Dead shows. My friend and I are making a short list of KILLER live DEAD shows. Our starting point has recently been directed to some shows in MAY of 1977. We both have many cassette recordings which are holding on by a thread.
The Lakeland, Florida show in May of 1977 is a great starting point.. This one goes down in the history books as being one of the best. It only gets better.
Dick's Picks 29 (Grateful Dead's official live soundboard releases) has LakeLand, Florida and the Atlanta show(prevoius night) as a 6 disc release. I ordered mine the other day. The spring tour 0f 1977-1978 have some of the best live Dead shows that really show off the playing of the band.
"American Beauty" and "Workingman's Dead" cd's are a great studio recording period for the Dead while the 1977-1978 tour dates show off the live talents of the band. Garcia is so great.
I wish I could dance as well as Andy in the Mule. I have been labled "the stumbler" by people who seen me dance. Genetics are crazy sometimes.
Next week I get to see my old Yoga friend Adrian Belew with King Crimson at Parkwest in Chicago. Yikes, Trey Gunn(bass player) makes me appreciate music theory and his playing scares me a little. He plays a 8 string bass with one side of the 4 string fret board being fretless and the other being fretted.
Atlanta Pop "Dreams" in the car yesterday, WOW! the ABB's had it going good that festival.
Cheers Charlie
