Hey now - This evening my kids and I went trick-or-treating with Donna Hopkins, her daughter India, and friends. While the other parents were along to supervise, Donna wore a Mardi Gras mask and filled a bag with candy. Tonight I discovered that our Donna is a sucker for suckers! Whoa -- I've got some hot news! First of all, Donna performed last Tuesday at Fuzzy's with a new group – in addition to the Donna Hopkins Band and the Women of Rock, Donna is now fronting an awesome all-girl band. Growing out of an impromptu jam, Tuesday's show was the first-ever gig for the group, tentatively called Word To Your Mother. This talented ensemble consists of: Donna Hopkins - vocals and guitar Lola Gulley - vocals and keys Cindy Adler - bass Tina Catalanotto - drum kit Shelley Murphy - percussion This is not a novelty act -- this is a hard-rocking band that offers their own unique interpretations of Donna's songs together with a mix of new covers and originals. Be on the lookout for tapes of the show! Interestingly, the gals called themselves the Back Stabbing Witches (with a "B" ) during the performance, although this name is strictly tongue-in-cheek and is now disavowed. Other names being considered are The Fabulous Five Femmes and Mothers & Sinners. Whatever they are called, I hope you get to hear them soon! And, hey! Donna Hopkins Band players Richie Jones and Kevin Thomas were in the audience that night -- both with bombshell announcements. First, Richie and long time gal friend Sam Allessi are tying the knot! Yes, two of my favorite people are getting married to each other! I don't know the details yet, but I'm sure the date will be set shortly. In MORE big news, Kevin announced that he and girlfriend (and recording artist) Mimi Holland are not only getting married … they are pregnant! And that's the news from Atlanta.
