Just a quick note to thank everyone of my best friends for the birthday wishes. I've been seriously affected by this band since I first saw them in the woods on the free stage in Byron, July 1970. I usually get to a few shows a year, so I think I know what sounds good to my ears at least. Well, wrap it all up into one sweet night of music and that was Red Rocks, 9/19/03. Quite simply, the best ever!!! The best music, company, venue, new old friends (Pat, I'm kind of an old coot, but there is really only one Old Coot!!!) Steve, what a pleasure to finally meet you. Great to meet Sagebrush, see Rick-O from Minn and his crew, Southpaw, Bluefox, Stormeister and on and on yadayada. All the details have been covered, but I have never been moved by any music like I was at Red Rocks. Red Rocks rocks!!!
A quick drive to Boulder then next evening found me ('cause I couldn't find anything!!) third row in front of Derek for the radio taping. A tap on the shoulder and there's Leon sitting across the aisle from me with a grinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn that was like Yep, we're here!!!
Another great night of music followed by an incredibly fun time at the Red Fish. We met about a zillion new old friends and Kofi came in for a couple of sips with us. Found out he used to play here in VB for a band called Hotcakes! Small world, great person.
Anyway, while I'm reveling in my birthday wishes (and thankful to be around to hear them), right now a couple of our dearest friends could stand some GB vibes and prayers. Jeanne's Pop is having a real struggle right now as is Lammie's Sis. My best thoughts, prayers and vibes go out to them.
