hey, john, you'd be surprised how talented Jack White is as a guitar player. they're a duo, and he's basically shredding delta blues-derived guitar the whole time. i was really wondering how they'd hold up live, and i came away very surprised. sarah's piano teacher was all for us taking her to norah jones and all against us taking her to the white stripes. not sophisticated enough, apparently. as if. turns out it was almost the reverse. loved norah jones, but she and her wonderful band seemed like they were in a cage made of success that they could only escape for a few songs. on the other hand, seeing a drummer and a guitarist captivate an audience like last night, man, THAT was something. john, from what you've told me about yourself, i KNOW you totally rock. you would SO get the White Stripes live. it's a lot like what our older brothers were trying to play about 1966. (in my neighborhood, that woulda been "The Blue Mods") PS: ON the other hand, the opening act was channeling Pere Ubu and that went over a little less well with most folks. I enjoyed 'em, but I'm a weirdo.
