well...if you're reverent about the blues, stay away from 'em. if you really really dig things like "Nuggets," and you want something that'll give you a heart attack, well, check 'em out. i mean, they just rocked like mad, loud to soft and back, Jack White has incredible stage presence, there's a wit about 'em that cuts through any pretension, all 4 of us (we took the neighbor's Good Charlotte-loving 14 y.o. guitar-playing daughter with us) had a great time, everyone around us was rocking (40-ish hipsters and kids, country headbangers and club kids in red and black -- one of our seatmates saw Jeff Beck's Blow-by-blow tour in the building in the 70's and HE dug last night too)...i mean, it's Led Zeppelin meets the Ramones meets John Lee Hooker meets I don't know what, but they just tore it up for about 90 minutes and left everyone wanting more! YOW!
and being the oldsters we are, we stayed off the floor and up in the good view, comfy seats. and we still had to jump up and down a few times. FUN!
PS: I totally resisted the buzz on the band until Elephant came out and got 5 stars in RS and even better press in other magazines. Bought the CD and every time I listened to it, I liked it more. Nothing complicated, but the way two people could completely rock 2000 people for 90 minutes was just great, and fun.
