I'll agree with Sheep on the Layla call.... I've listened to 3.14, the virgin Layla....couldn't get in to it.....seemed to drag and there were a couple of near misses....now 3.21? a different story, the initial rush I had when they hit the first few notes soon gave way to relaxation as I started to settle in and really listen to the tune....I've come to expect perfection from Derek and he delivers every time, it's like standing under a warm waterfall, you just stand under it and let the notes fall on you, like morphine running through your veins....peaceful slumber.....I've been fortunate to hear 2 guitarists absolutely nail Layla covers.....Derek Trucks and Rusty Barkley....what impresses me with RB is that he plays both guitar parts and Kicks 'em, if you're in the Charlotte area and haven't heard him play, then shame on you!!!
Back to Derek.....the other song that sends me to the moon is Dreams, an ABB classic that continues to be my favorite ABB tune because of Derek....He is all over this song, it's his., he's made it his....Gregg lays the foundation with his vocals , Warren lays into the purgatory and pain of just giving up on it all and letting everyone else win....then here comes Derek to ease the troubled mind, he restores the faith and generates the strength to keep pressing on.....
As exciting as it was to witness Layla on 3.21....my vote for 2nd weekend Beacon 2003 was Dreams 3.21.03....... man, Derek was just flat:guitar:.... sweet Dreams.....
