Hey Ron, that is great news about Bill's surgery! "And there was much rejoicing." Brent, yeah, I think I would have to take The Hammer over Steve Garvey. I'm sure you'll remember some of the names that started for the Dodgers that night: Lopes, 2b Buckner, lf Wynn, cf Ferguson, c Crawford, rf Cey, 3b Garvey, 1b Russell, ss Downing, p And Brent is a little late on the trivia answer, but for y'all that are curious, Chicago Cubs' manager Dusty Baker was in the on deck circle when Aaron got his 715th dinger. A couple of other fun factoids about that historic night: "The Star Spangled Banner" was sung by Pearl Bailey. Aaron's father threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Then-commisioner Bowie Kuhn was conspicuously absent from the crowd. The Governor of Georgia WAS in the crowd--a fellow by the name of Jimmy Carter. Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium was imploded after the '96 season and is now a giant round parking lot adjacent to the current home of the Braves, Turner Field--which sits on Hank Aaron Boulevard. There is still a small section of fence standing on the edge of the parking lot in the exact spot where Aaron's home run landed. At the main entrance to Turner Field, there is a huge (I'm talkin' several stories tall) replica of the ball that Aaron hit to break the record. Aaron is now the Senior Vice President of the Atlanta Braves. And last but not least, Aaron is the pride of Mobile, Alabama, and has a minor league ballpark there named after him. Okay, now I'm REALLY finished! 😀
