Gee – I leave for a few days, and all hell breaks loose here. The family and I had a great time in New York – and I even managed to work in a night at the Beacon with my other family (the cult, as my friends say). The pre-show party by the Leftcoasters was a real treat - Thanks guys! Ran into so many I had met in Chicago last year, and so many more – and finally got to meet Lana! Also was treated to Lamdog, EasyMichael, and Jimmy jamming away with Libby’s beautiful voice on some Allman classics – although Lammie’s rendition of Copacabana was my favorite 😀 Ok, so the show had many highlights for me – You Don’t Love Me, my first Maydell, High Cost, Trouble No More. The best, however, was The Same Thing – boy did they wail on that one – longer version that kept me riveted. Liz Reed is probably my favorite ABB song, but I don’t like when they end the concert with the long version with the drum solos, bass solo, and then everybody comes back on stage for 10 seconds and then it’s over (right JFC?). It could be that I was tired after getting up at 2:30 am to fly to NY, or it could have been the one or two ( 😀 ) beers I had at the party and the concert, but I was struggling by the end of it. I guess I will have to wait till CHICAGO for Layla and Wasted Words. My 2 posters from the show made it home in great shape – can’t wait to put one up. Also loving the T-shirt with the album cover on the front and back with Beacon 2003 on the back. Also glad to get one of the nametags with a tribute to the first person I got a show from – the late great TommyC – great idea! This was my first Beacon, and I enjoyed meeting everyone. Like others, if I tried to name everybody, I would miss someone. Special thanks to Randall for the shows, and I’m glad I got to meet the forum angel and the Queen of Peach. I don’t care what some of the naysayers have been saying here, I go for the music – and it just keeps getting better. Gregg’s voice is my favorite instrument. I listened to HTN a couple of times on my flights, and each of these songs hit me in a different way – and I love listening to all of them. Because of all the great people I have met here, I have also become a big fan of Mule, DTB, NMAS, Robert Randolph, Susan, and who’s next? – maybe Donna Hopkins? I also go because of the great people I have met here – and I hope the list keeps growing. As TerriB so aptly put it, “I had fun”!
