Good Day Friends! The weather has been beautiful here in the Northeast or Beacon territory as I lke to call it! Just makes you feel good to be alive.
Well, like many of you, I picked up my copy of "Hittin The Note" today. In fact Its playing right now for the third time since this morning. Without over doing the superlatives, the Disc is positively brilliant. I'm not gonna bore everyone by going tune by tune but... The songs are wonderful, the production quality is stellar - every note is clear, the mix is perfect! Gregg is singing with complete clarity but more important with complete conviction. I really don't think he's ever sounded this good. The whole CD clocks in at 75:00 minutes, this would be a double album if it was released in the seventies. In fact Its five minutes longer than Eat a Peach by the way, even with the 33 minute Mtn Jam. Is it the best work from The Brothers since "Peach" or "Brothers and Sisters"? In my opinion HELL YES! Why? There are no weak songs, fillers or throw-aways. All the tunes are worthy of being played live - and they are being played live! Desdemona is a real standout - Greggs vocals are pristine, Instrumental Illness - sounds like John Scofield on steroids, beautiful!! Derek really cuts through on High Cost and Who to Believe. The acoustic closer "Old Friend" is really cool as well . This is a really nice collection of songs. I think Duane would be proud - Its bluesy, jazzy and raw just the way he'd like it! I'm diggin' it big time! Go get yourself one if you haven't already. Oh yeah, The Brothers have another show tonight! I'll guess I'll see all you fine folks this weekend. I'm ready!
