Yea, the band really blew the roof off the Beacon last night. I really got the sense of how tight this lineup has become. They seem to be having a real good time with lots of communication going on on stage. Derek just keeps getting better playing with a lot of confidence. He stayed pretty close to Greg all night.
The band is definitely hitting on all cylinders. Best drum/percussion is R&R with Butch continuing to amaze. Oteil was right there all night, great playing mostly on the 6 string. Greg looked and sounded great, you have to give him credit for what he has accomplished. As the top dog you could see the pride in his eyes.
Warren and Derek are definitely the best 1 - 2 guitar punch out there today. With or without the glass on. Warren seemed very comfortable with the band leader role and Derek is definitely carrying the Duane Allman torch. Both were white hot at times.
They tore up the Layla encore. It was odd to see/hear Butch at center stage. He said, "I've been hiding behind all that crap (pointing to the drum setups) for the last 34 years". Warren sang great, Greg did an excellent job on the piano and Derek just shredded the slide parts especially the second part of the song. Mountain Jam started with just Butch on the Tympani and Derek playing strait lead. A real nice 30 minute version.
Interesting song selection and I got the feeling that they were playing more like a band. Got a fair amount of ABB stuff with plenty of trimmings of other stuff.
Maybe just a little rust but not much considering it was only night 2. No guest appearances which was nice. A little dissappointed to not hear any acoustic stuff. Security was tight with not many people making it up front.
Sorry to ramble, but what a great show.
