Just saw that tonight's PBS American Masters show is about Bob Marley. It's on 9:30 here in New York. Enjoy your jammin'! American Masters Bob Marley: Rebel Music 90 min. Bob Marley is the subject of this fascinating profile, which details the reggae star's music, fame and crusade for social justice. Interviews with Marley, family members and fellow musicians, as well as performance and newsreel footage, recall his spirituality, career and love life. The profile also relates the feeling of hope that Marley---who died of cancer in 1981 at age 36---came to symbolize for oppressed people. In discussing Marley's “Put It On” here, writer Garth White says, “You have the religious, the romantic, the sexual and the revolutionary all in one....This is, perhaps, one of the keys to Marley's magic.”
