I've really been thinking about how to solve the problem of high concert ticket prices. Just like healthcare everyone should have the right to affordable concerts. All musicians being just like the rest of us mere mortals, why should one make more than the next?
So, as in health insurance under ObamaCare, I have come up with ObamaJam. Create a new Dept of Rock & Roll Services to oversee the concert business. From now on all concert tickets will have 4 pricing levels but ticket prices at every venue and for every artist will be fixed exactly the same. Booking fees artists can charge promoters are tied to an "allowable charge" set and regulated by bureaucrats at the Dept of R&R, and a promoter can make no more than 20% over the cost of staging the event (paying the band, venue, insurance, etc) but if no one shows up and not enough tickets are sold to cover his costs he still loses money. However, if he makes more than 20% over the cost of staging the event he must refund the excess money to ticketholders.
Does that sound like a plan that would bring down the cost of rock & roll concerts and make more and higher quality shows available?
