Well, Jones Beach show was a wonderful night of music and friends. Arrived at the parking lot...car thermometer said 98 degrees. Hot as can be. Found NYCBarb, and her husband Bob. Also saw Rich, Gail, Deb, Cindy, and later Joe Bell from HTN. ( Hey, I thought I was going to win that autographed picture of the band from 1991...what happened! 🙂
Promtly at 7PM, Santana hit the stage. My first time seeing him. I have heard good and bad about him lately....I wanted to see for myself. Anyone who thinks they should skip his set, should rethink that thought! He plays like he always has. He mixed old and newer stuff. Heard most of the first album. When he did Black Magic Woman, and then transitioned into OyeComo Va, the crowd went crazy. Also did a faithful version of No One to Depend On, and his other guitarist really shined. Some Latin grooves mixed in for good measure. I am so glad I didn't miss it.
ABB closed, and did a night of familiar tunes, that were guaranteed to please. Derek and Warren were tight, and it was great to see Carlos join them for Mountain Jam. Gregg started out strong, but by the end of the night, his voice was strained. But he was in much better form than last March. It was wonderful to get a Whipping Post encore.
A splendid time was had by all. My soul having been rejuvenated , I left and made it home in time to get some sleep, since I had to go to work today 🙁
It was time and money well spent....so glad I got to go.
