I just went through the recent posts. The "Wasted Words" posts brought back memories. I think I can confirm that Gregg played a guitar on Wasted Words, and that it was the first song played in both shows. I saw the ABB in 1973 at RFK Stadium in DC and at Watkins Glen. Maybe more shows, but I don't remember! I had graduated college in spring 73, and had just gotten my first job. I hated it. The only good thing was that WNEW-FM played "Ramblin' Man" every morning while I was driving to work. That song kept me alive that summer. Some memories of that summer: 1) Partying and not sleeping for the 48 hours it took us to drive from NY to DC for the RFK show, and the 72 hours it took us to get back home. Fortunately, I had been fired from the hated job mentioned above, and was able to sleep for a week once I got home; 2) Watkins Glen - the day before the concert, I decided to meet some friends who were already there, and I drove up with some people I didnt' know (friends of friends of friends) at the last minute (I had just been fired from my 2nd job!). One of the girls we were with kept her top off for the whole time we were there, which along with the 10 gallons of water and 5 lbs. of Oreo Cookies we had made us a very popular group to hang out with. My mom had gone to Hong Kong to rescue my dad from the trouble he was getting into at the "tea rooms" in Wan Chai (a long, long story). My younger sister had told my mom she was going camping at Watkins Glen with some friends to watch the car races. Of course, my Mom turns on the TV just in time to see the news reports about 600,000 hippies at Watkins Glen listening to music and realized my sister was there. She freaked out, and caught the first flight back to the states to go looking for my sister (my Dad finally followed her back home a few weeks later - he was in the dog house for years after). Since my mom was gone, I drove her brand new car up to Watkins Glen, since I didn't want to mess my up my beat up old hippy mobile. Anyways, it was really hot under the sun at Watkins Glen. I went back to my mom's car to take a nap and get more water from the trunk. Of course, the keys fell out of my pocket onto the back seat while I was sleeping, and I locked the car doors before realizing the keys were inside. I had planned ahead for this, and had given the then-shirted now topless girl an extra set of keys, which she of course she had put in the pocket of her by now long lost shirt. I ended up having to smash the window of my mom's new car to rescue the keys. When I finally reached home after driving all night after the concert, the phone was ringing of the hook. Of course it was my Mom calling from the airport, blaming me for letting my sister go to WK. When I mentioned that I had been there too, she really freaked out, because I was supposed to have been dressed in a suit looking for a new job. Anyway, I had completely forgotten this stuff until I read the posts about "Wasted Words." Looking back on it all now, it's amazing so many of us lived through those times and are around to talk about it.
