I guess the good and bad posts about hospitals could be talked about at great length. No doubt that bad stuff happens in hospitals. Some is preventable and some could not be forseen. Every patient is an individual case.
So many people work in a hospital that there will be some "bad apples" in the barrel. And there are a lot of people who care very much about the well being of the patients.
I work in cancer care...I haven't really met anyone working in this field who has no feelings for the patients. They have many other areas that are less stressful that they can work in if they want.
I work in a hospital run by NY city. It is staffed by lots of good folks, with a few folks who are just trying to get a paycheck for doing as little as they can. That is not unique to hospitals, but it has more consequences than in other places.
If you are in the hospital, it is important to have a friend or family member acting as you advocate. Hopefully it is someone with healthcare experience, but anyone that can help you is important. Sad but true these days.
