eddie... i can remember sometime in the winter of 71-72..when my uncle headed out to Arizona and left all his album in my "trusty" care... i rifiled thru and bagged some obvious choices.. some early Dead, the Band, Steppenwolf, Santana..and some real obscure stuff(to me at the time) began to find it's way in my hands time & again... i'd pick up an album.. play it a bit and if it didn't grab my short lived attention span.. i throw it back in the boxes again.. i came the allmans 1st two albums.. and the first thing that grabbed my attention was..as i was looking over the front and back covers...these cats sitting naked in the woods... i thought that was very strange... the only "necked" people i remember being on an album were the Blind Faith and Garcia album.. so i tried the idlewild south and Revival got me going right away... and oof those 1st two albums i loved Please Call Home right away and then Dreams...but the one i kept playin over and over again was Ain't My Cross to Bear... i was hooked... the other thing it did was peak my curiosity so that i listened almost every album my Uncle had in his collection... Miles Davis, John Coltrane, John Mayall ...JohnMayall ALOT... Janis Joplin... In 1972 , i was 14 and i had only 2 two friends that would listen to this "treasure" chest of music my 25 yr old uncle had left in my care... that summer of '72... he flew back to NJ and drove with him in van out to Arizona... i musta drove him nuts talking about his albums i now thougth as my own... HE ALWAYS REMINDED ME... they were just ON LOAN... We campe dat state parks the whole way out there.. and then i spent 4 wks with him and my 2 Aunts... and they had some wild ass parties out there in Tuscon... too much ramblin... but i'll never forget getting stoned and sitting in the dunes out in Alamagordo(sp?), New Mexico... the sand had purple tint to it and Mountains in the distance rose to about 14K ft... amazing place..
