Blues and Barbecue THIS Sunday in Birmingham! (clipped from the Birmingham News) Besides appearing at a Saturday sickle cell forum in Birmingham, Food Network star and best-selling author Jeff Henderson will appear at a Sunday afternoon music and food event in Five Points South. Henderson will do cooking demonstrations and barbecue tastings at the “Southern Comfort Presents: Blues & BBQ.” The free event will be from 4 to 9 p.m. in the Pickwick Plaza Courtway. The area is behind the Hotel Highland and the H Bar on Magnolia Ave. The Shaun Pezant Trio, Elnora Spencer, The All Stars, Glen & Libba and others will perform on Sunday. Wine tasting, BBQ, sushi, pizza and more will be available. Henderson, who learned how to cook in prison and became a successful chef upon his prison release, wrote the New York Times best-selling book, “Cooked: From the Streets to the Stove, from Cocaine to Foie Gras.’’ He will speak and do a cooking demonstration during Saturday’s Sickle Cell Disease Town Hall Forum, 2 to 6 p.m., at the Highland Conference Center, 2012 Magnolia Ave. Call 205-901-9923 for more information about Saturday’s forum, and 205-939-4599 for information about Sunday’s event.
