You are also absolutely right, unmistakable doesn't always equal good. In regards to Knopfler though his tone is unmistakable and awesome. Regarding Derek and the SG...I have really enjoyed Derek playing more guitars w/ the ABB the last few years...those vintage Les Pauls in '08 at Chastain sounded AMAZING, this year at the Palace he played a Gibson Firebird and a PRS. When he played the PRS on Preaching Blues the first night of the Palace run I thought that was the best tone he had the whole time in NY, it really sounded awesome, unfortunately it never made another appearance. Derek is really a no frills player, guitar, amp, and hands...I believe that Fender Deluxe Reverb plays a large role in his tone, along w/ his amazing talents. Ryan
