HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all of the mamas out there! 🙂 And to my own mom in no chronological order: You gave me my life-long love of reading. You let me stay up late one night a week to watch TV. You taught me how to bat in the park by our house. And even though you hated sports, you took me to all of my ballgames. And when it was my turn to bat I always knew I could look at you and you would put your book down to watch me hit. When my T-ball team took me to my first ever baseball game at Tiger Stadium, you gave me $2.25 even though we couldn't afford it. I still have the ticket stub. When I left my tricycle behind Dad's car and he ran over it, you got me a new one. When I was 4 or 5 and thought it was a good idea to poke a stick at the hornet nest under the tree in the front yard, you ran out of the house and saved me. When I was 16 and got frustrated at my inability to figure out how to drive a stick-shift, you wouldn't let me quit. Haven't driven a stick in probably 20 years but I know I could because of you. When I gave you a "bouquet" of dandelions, you smiled and hugged me. When I realized dandelions were weeds and decided up upgrade on what I gave you, I didn't get punished for picking flowers out of the neighbors' garden. I just had to apologize. When I was in first grade and an African American girl joined my class, I had never seen anyone but caucasians. You explained things and told me under no uncertain terms was I to think any differently toward her than I would to anyone else. I'll never forget that. When my pet gerbil Sammy got out of his cage, you helped me find him. When Sammy died, you were there when I put him in a box and buried him in the backyard. Even though you blamed me for stealing the chocolate chips out of the cupboard, you apologized 30 years after the fact when my brother finally admitted to framing me. When I needed a hug, I ALWAYS knew where I could get one. Love you Mom.
