9thwardyat, Butch must have confused "Mountain Jam" with "One Way Out" which was recorded June 27, 1971, the night of the Fillmore closing instead of during the March 1971 Fillmore shows. "Mountain Jam" was from the March 1971 shows. I'm not defending what Butch said, but to give him the benefit of the doubt, I've heard him and other band members say that the Fillmore version of "Mountain Jam", though spectacular to us, was mediocre to them. I once read an interview with Jaimoe who said that the shows that made up the FIllmore East album were good but not great shows. That's how amazing the band was at the time. What to Jaimoe was average was to me, and many others, the best live music I've ever heard. When they were great, they must have been through the roof.
