For those of you following the further adventures of SkyPonyDogBoy's son, thought I'd give a laypersons explanation of what Forrest is being trained to do.
A HALO jump usually occurs at between 25,000 and 90,000 feet. That is around 18 miles high! The jumper is on oxygen and falls silently thru the air until his chute deploys perhaps at 1500 feet; some say 100 feet. There is no margin for error. This is all done secretly to insert special forces behind enemy lines...
Why?
....let's just say they aren't going to all that trouble to sell Girl Scout cookies!:cool:
