I look at the short life of Duane Allman and just marvel. The young man, did so much musically, and influenced so many. Actually changed the way modern pickers approached playing slide guitar, he redefined it. Somehow drew in the mojo of a violin to the guitar in sonic nature..... and to be so young and have veterans drawn to you to want you on their records..... that is something that 40 year olds and older do... session work, veteran session men.... who is this cocky kid who can't read music and plays circles around the house players? I think the one thing I want to focus on in this little Life Lesson From Duane moment.... is..... to set the bar high. The man set the bar very very high it seems, and then walked the walk. I think he inspired the rest of the Allmans, or just flat out made them do it, but he had all of them all set the bar high with him. In listening to all the studio and live Duane era stuff, I can't recollect a "Going Through The Motions" performance. Duane came to play, period. God Bless. And set yer bar high, damn it.
