Thanks for the b-day wishes.
Gailagain - yes I am indeed lucky.
Tonight will be my 11th ABB show for '09. I had the good fortune of seeing an unprecedented (for me) 8 Beacon shows, 1 at Hunter Mountain, and the recent Canandaigua show.
(I've actually had the good fortune of seeing the Mule 8 times, DTB 3 times, and Dickey once so far. It's been a banner year!)
On overall ABB shows, I lost track. I know it's between 90 and 100, but I'll have to go back through the years and count ticket stubs. I'd sure hate for my 100th to pass by without notice.
My road buddy, another Jeff, and I stopped at Bethel Woods on the way home from Hunter Mountain to check out the place and the Woodstock museum. While we were there, I saw their season line up and noticed that the ABB were going to be there on my birthday, and the idea began to gain momentum. Once home, I said "What the hey, why not?"
I've loaded the vehicle with all the archival releases (which believe it or not, even though I've had them for quite some time, I've never listened to). It's about a 5 hour road trip from Buffalo, so I should be able to hear a good portion of them, there and back.
I've listened to so much of the present band, that I thought in honor of the 40th Anniversary and the dedication to Duane, I would go back and listen to some early Brothers from back in the day, and hear them as they once were.
I'm also wearing my new HTN official Duane tee for the 1st time, that I bought back at Beacon time, and saved for a special occasion. Today feels like the right day.
Here's to my favorite band, in all incarnations past and present. Dedicated to a brother - wail on Skydog!!!
