My wife and I went to see the Edwin McCain Band at the HOB - Chicago on Saturday night. It was a pretty incredible night of music and he has a great band! Loved his drummer, a guy by the name of Cortez Sherah (sp?). He had an unknown open the show, a guy by the name of Paul Freeman, a singer/songwriter from Wales. He was extremely talented with a superb voice. Toward the end of the night, Edwin McCain invites this Paul Freeman out to perform one of his original songs. It was Edwin playing acoustic, P. Freeman playing acoustic and harp (ala Bob Dylan), and guitarist Larry Chaney. Before the song, Edwin was asking the audience to support the new local artists and siad that is why he brought Paul out. He stated that when he was up-and-coming, it was artists/bands like the Allman Brothers, Hootie, Blues Traveler, Warren Haynes that helped give him an opportunity and that he wanted to give back. If you get a chance to see Edwin McCain or Paul Freeman, you surely will be entertained. I just thought it to be cool that he thought enough of the ABB, Warren Haynes et al and wanted to thank them for giving him a chance.
