Well, well, well.....
You just never know what's around the next corner in life, and that's a good thing. Sometimes it's disaster, and you don't even want to know ahead of time.
Sometimes it's glorious sunshine streaming through the door. And the tough times help you really appreciate it.
I'll try to cut out some details here...
A few years back, a gentleman here from our local 60's garage band that kinda' went somewhere, he retired as a referee from the world's top tennis matches, began building a music venue here. Ran in to all sorts of situations, perhaps some financial, I don't know. But for whatever reason, the interior never got finished, the venue never opened.
Last night an old acquaintance tracked me down, asked for my contact info. Seems some of his friends bought the place, finished the construction. Millionaires in the oil business.
Opening day is June 18. They're asking for my help in finding out how to book top acts, I'll do what I can. Seats 1600.
Another key point--it's a couple miles outside the Bonaroo exclusive zone.
May amount to nothing, may be a doorway full of glorious sunshine!
Another cool little deal....
March last year (on my birthday), the Birmingham Area Music Awards were held.
Chuck Leavell came in to headline the ceremony. Afterwards, Big Stephen McCollough's primary band, The Big Tastees, hosted the afterparty, and Chuck dropped by, sat in on Stephen's keyboard. This Friday The Big Tastees are playing the Downtown Tavern locally.
I'm sure they're getting peanuts, just doing the gig so that Stephen can show them off to the hometown folks. Pretty cool.
This is a good morning in my little world.:)
