Jeff:
Interesting. Did you intend to make several backhanded compliments in your post? Because you did.
To say this Dickey debate is senseless and pointless is neither fair nor accurate, unless of course you know something others do not. Thats your opinion. How do you know its pointless? You may have given up, but folks like Red Dog are not.
Im sorry, but when gasoline is 4 bucks a gallon, folks are losing their jobs, the economy is bad, so and so was in rehab, blah, blah folks like me were there shelling out money to put into the pockets of this Band. And next to a few here as much as I love them I cant hold a candle to the travel miles logged. While I dont like the "owe" context on the surface, the point is this Band has a product and has a responsibility to deliver to its fan base, else we are the fools being strung along. Long time fans have paid their dues with the ABB, yes they have given back in return. Out of respect for their fans, they should listen to the fact some want Betts back up on that stage to sit in for this 40th thing. Thats all.
Lastly Jeff, in your well written post, you infer an opinion that blood line equals roots. It does not. In fact, when you look at the musical talent base across the entire band bloodline you wont see the bar raised very high musically. EXCEPTIONS exist of course, but lets be honest here. Again, respectfully, I question if you completely understand what the passion is here with Betts. Red Dog has spoken about it...that place musically that does not exist currently. The idea of actually seeing those 4 men playing their asses off one more time.
Funny. I have voiced doubt all along on this deal, but, I give huge respect to those who have that old flame passion in their gut. Its NOT senseless to bring it out IMO because IMO the fact these old road dogs are basically saying "...set the young guns aside for a while and let us bathe in the sounds and warmth of Duane's creation". Or that how I perceive it to be.
No flames this morning from me, just observation. Thanks.
