I know, I gave up the GB..... it's like chocolate, you can't stay away forever, and Red Rocks is a great reason to post! It was a great and magical year, I was there once on chemo, once a couple few months after treatment when I was still weak, so this was the Red Rocks I deserved and waited for, plus every star posssible was aligned with the weather, the people, the friends, my Travelling Associate :), and the happiness someone pumped into the air evidently...... When you name names you forget some, and I am the worst. So the couple names I mention are people special over the years with me, and I know some of the people I don't mention will be on an ever growing list of inner circle buddies as the foundation for real friendship was layed in many cases this weekend. There are quite a few people I either never met before or if so, in a passing manner, but this weekend got to hang with and all I can possibly say is: "You are a great friggin bunch"!!!!!!!!!!! The mini Birdnopsys: *The Party* I must name Jack and Phyllis are my favorite hosts in the WORLD. Deluxe all the way, wow. I just love you two. The fact you throw the best party around only slightly influences that... 🙂 The talk, cammadarie, the meeting so many cool folk, the anticipation of the show, the music later that night to come from Lefty Tommy and his crew, it was a locomotive just building steam... It was fantastic continuing to give Cowboy Neal hell in person. Had some great music chat with bro Lefty who is my new bud even if he objects. Slammer forgave me for last Red Rocks, haha..... Stormy, Big Mike, Cujo, had great chat with The Johhny 🙂 and Christ I am going to slight someone important, I should not have begun..... I'll edit and insert names I know..... but the "old Crew" was GREAT to see..... of course all the LADIES and to avoid jealousy I won't name a darn one of you, haha... **The Show Before The Show** What was it, Dulcinda's or something like that..... north of Jack's not far, a cool club..... Lana and Rowland came in and it was a "fine bunch" 🙂 Lefty has something very special going on with the acoustic guitar and a chair. Riveting stuff. I LOVE back porch blues and this stuff was down home and REAL. I could have listened to much more than his set...... I was around some local young ones who obviously wandered into the club, not part of the "group" and Lefty, some good stuff was being said, like instant converts, dude. Tommy's Hot Band Plays: Yes, they are the Real Meal Deal, people. Professional, tight, rockin', funky, magical and more. Bass man was unbelievable. Guitarist on the Strat was quite the axe man. He had a full time smile on all night and threw blazing runs out like nuthin, and played a transcendental Little Wing. Tommy was impeccable on a nice flame top Les Paul that sounded sweet all night, and he does some nice vocal work to boot. Keyboard and vocals very nice, great band Tommy. ***The Main Brotherly Act*** I don't know quite how to critique this show…… OK, It was great! The band rose to the Red Rocks magnificence and were also. The band was tighter than proverbial nails and had a mission that night……… My highlights: Watching mesmerized at the big screen as Derek or Warren soloed. The camera work was spot on, and just watching the mechanics of what they were doing was incredible. I hadn’t seen either of them play in exactly two years, and they both have grown over that time. Derek particularly…… he was lightning fast on attacking the fretboard. Cosmic moment: Whipping Post camera angle catching Warren and Derek just going nuclear…… I can’t believe no strings were broken….. The whole band was fantastic, JJ and Butch were amazing. Oteil is just so much fun and his Little Martha was special. Gregg: He looked good, as someone who has done treatment, he looked, well, like someone that is coming a few months off treatment, to be honest. Looks good, but like he was in a battle and mending. He had smiles and looked very good in the sense of what he projected, a new man! His vocals started out a bit reserved, and did grow in intensity as the night unfolded. He hit the notes, was clear and distinct, and did all the lyrics perfectly, with emphasis on enunciation, what I am saying is he was very, very focused and intent on giving every ounce of what he could, it showed, and I was moved. The encore Whipping Post was more than moving, it was taking it to the mountain stuff, not to pun 🙂 He put it ALL into the performance. It was something to watch him physically rear back on the organ bench to fill his lungs with air to belt out “Sometimes I Feel”…… I have seen him sing that many times and this time it felt REAL, like it was Gregg singing to God himself and we were peaking in on it……. Legendary stuff in my book….. That’s all folks, God Bless the Allman Brothers……
