Unbelievably well said, Gary. You have a way with words to distill all things down to the essence of what it is. I think most here would wholeheartedly agree with your thoughts and sentiments.
BTW – thanks for the classic Mule Tracks suggestions. I got the 2-27-1998 show, a buddy got the 4-15-2000 show, and we traded. Both awesome shows that really capture the original Mule early in their evolution. Songs not often played any more that brought back fond memories of the Mule’s early days with Woody. I listened to those shows last night and tonight. I will definitely acquire the Hendrix-laden 09-19-1998 show you suggested as well.
Speaking of Woody…..
On this night, into tomorrow morning, (officially 8-26), eight years ago, Allen Woody left us. I learned of this while attending an ABB show in the Chicago area on the night of the 26th. I remember thinking it was odd that the pre-ABB show PA music was all Gov’t Mule, and was curious since the band typically played old blues songs over the PA at that time. I later learned the sad news and it all made sense.
As with the ABB, I loved the early Mule, but I love the present Mule and all incarnations in between. Those early years are always special though. Nothing ever quite equals that aura.
We miss you Woody. Sail on Captain Al…….
