Afternoon All,
A little late but here is my review of the DTB show in Athens. Wow, like Hophead said it is truly amazing to see this band expand the way it has, every time you think you know what to expect they always throw you a curve ball. They have such a wealth of material, I really love it when they mix up the set list with tunes that you have not heard in a while, because they just sound brand new.
As far as Derek’s tone, I really know what folks are talking about. I have already said on several occasions that I can pick out Derek’s playing anywhere because it is unique and his own. When you add the talent of Yonrico, Todd & Kofi and now Mike Mattison this show definitely hit on all four cylinders. I can’t say enough about the DTB, they have never failed to take me to that special place.
Susan was incredible as usual, she has that kind of voice that just cuts through straight to the heart and I can’t wait to hear her new album. Also, Mike is wonderful as well and I think we have yet to really hear what lies beneath this wonderful unassuming young man. The DTB show in Macon for me holds the promise of Mike’s talent yet to be revealed.
Anyway, the new video addition to the show was quite nice, although I do believe that injecting some of the live show into the video would bring both the live show and the video together nicely.
Also, the Jakes roadhouse show starts at 9:00 so I expect the DTB to tune in probably sometime between 10:00 and 11:00 tonight since there will be another band playing later. Scott this is the usual live Dunham show that is done every Sunday for Z93, so I expect live streaming will be done. Today is my 23rd wedding anniversary, so what better place to be then Jakes tonight!
