I have a heart warming story for you all that happened today at Bibb Music in Macon. There's a 14 year old boy by the name of Dustin who comes in the store most Saturdays and plays the heck out of the guitar. And the best part is he loves classic and southern rock and old country. Eveybody that comes in and sees him is amazed at how well he plays (he looks even younger than he is. ) Anyway he loves the old music and musicians and has a sense of wonder and joy of music. Once I showed him a Gibson EDS1275 Double neck guitar that I was working on (just like Page's) and you would have thought he was going to come out of his skin-wide eyed and mouth agape and losing his breath for a second. While he was playing two guys walked in. They see the kid playing and one says to the other you got to hear this kid. The two guys were Howdy Horton and his golfing buddy, one Mr. Joseph Campbell. Red Dog says don't you play, you'll probably show me up and I'll not want to play anymore. Dustin still didn't understand who this guy was and tore into some Skynyrd and ABB. When Dustin was properly introduced he got that awe-struck expression again. Dog sat with the boy for a good little while, giving him great encourgement to keep working hard on the guitar and to work up his own style. I'll bet you this, Dustin will go to bed tonight one happy young man because someone associated with some of his musical heroes took time to talk with and encourage him. I know I will too. Thanks, Mr. Dog!
