my oldest concert T's i have are one-offs for specific concerts - Todd Rundgren's Utopia, December 1975 in Tulsa, and Bob Seger, 1978, Tulsa. (god bless you wherever you are Larry Shaeffer.) and my faded Bruce 1981 world tour T. those, i HAVE outgrown.
we saw Chris Thiele's new group, Punch Brothers, the other night, and they were fantastic - subtle, ethereal, complex, engaging and constantly shifting. one of the "young superstars of acoustic music" in the band, the guitarist, is a friend of my son's from high school, Chris Eldridge. way back in the day, before Derek got huge, and before Chris went to Oberlin, he'd expressed a desire to meet Derek - they're the same age, come from families of musicians, child prodigy level guitarists, and so on. my son talked with Derek about it several times, and even had Blake or someone's number at some point, but it never happened. given that my son called a few weeks ago to say, "dad, i turned on the TV last night, and Eldridge was on Leno!" i guess they're likely to meet sometime, albeit not through my humble connections - more likely at an awards show o somewhere out on that endless highway. anyway, he's a remarkably subtle, dexterous, and eclectic guitarist. when Tony Rice hangs stays at your homes for days on end as a kid, i guess you lick up a few things. :~)
oh, my Chris sends his love to Lana, Shey and everyone he hasn't seen in a dog's age.
get well, Gregg! everyone have a great time at Wanee - wish i could be there!
