Thanks to those who expressed concern/offered to help with the hole in my roof. Little interior damage, and a carpenter friend is going to put on a metal patch. Guess I overreacted. Still on track for NYC.
Now, as to guitarists. Great discussion, but a MAJOR overlooked point, IMHO, is the fact that the newer guys had Duane (and Dickey) to listen to.
Derek grew up listening to Duane, playing in open E. But Duane was the great innovator, playing tenor on guitar, and indeed creating a new form of music. He was almost as old as Derek when Hammond showed him slide in open E. I agree that Derek is probably near where Duane was headed, and I love his playing like nobody since Duane, but it was Duane Allman that came up with this whole approach to music, combining what he had heard from different forms and different artists to create the music that provides a forum for those that have followed. I love them for carrying on this wonderful music and for what they have added, but it was Duane that created it all in the first place, IMHO.
Deb, give my regards to Carol and Kevin at the DB show. I'll be wearing the shirt Carol gave me at the Jam for Duane. Hope your feeling better.
