Listening to the new "Live Anthology" from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers that my wonderful wife bought me for Christmas. Tom writes about the songs in the accompanying booklet. He says they always like to do some cover tunes that are favorites of theirs. Being a big fan of Peter Green and the earlier Fleetwood Mac, at one point the band decided to do "Oh Well," a song I am sure everyone here is familiar with. They received compliments from Mick Fleetwood and John McVie on The Heartbreakers version. They did it on the tour a few years back when ABB were the opening act. He writes that the next night Gregg strides up to him before the show and says "Tom, "Oh Well" is one of my all-time favorite songs," and pauses. Tom braces. Gregg says "And you guys nailed it." Tom goes on to write that compliment meant the most to him and he walked on stage a foot taller that night.
Talking about slide players he also has some great things to say about Duane and Derek. Seems to be a big ABB fan.
