This review will be scattered as I collect my thoughts this morning. Now onto the show. It's been said that Gregg is ill and I hope he's okay 'cause his music means a whole helluva alot to me. Last night in the beautiful city Charleston Gregg and the boys put on a fabulous show. Gregg was real playful and talkative with the crowd the whole night, he even stated before Dreams that "this is the first song I ever writ...(Gregg caught himself and started laughing)...oops I mean wrote" then said something about being southern and understanding the word "writ". I immediately thought of Renee. They killed Dreams!!! Another comment from Gregg was something about "some of us here are approaching that big number" joking about the age of 60. He was in great spirits. I can't remember the set list but the highlights lasted for about 2 hours or so. Gregg played guitar a bunch but really sang his ass off. Lets see Can't Turn You Loose, JBTBF, MR, Melissa, WP, Statesboro, Lovelight, Dreams, Just Like a Woman "everybody's gotta do a Bob Dylan song he's the writtingest sumbitch I ever saw", 2-3 Floyd songs where Gregg really busted his ass on the keys, Sweet Feelin, I'm No Angel, MultiColored Lady, HOB, DKMW, Key to the HWy but not in this order. Jay Collins and Bruce Katz turned it up a notch last night but Gregg was off the charts. His playing during Floyd's song were inspired. He really loves to play w/ FM. Gregg shows a ton more enthusiasm for his shows than ABB show in my opinion. It truly is a sweet soul revival. Finally the only downside last night was the crowd. The venue was only about 60% full and they mostly sat with their hands in their laps. I had two stiffs beside me who acted as though they were at the opera. Charlestonians mostly take the reserved, gentile southerner to the extreme but baby we at a Gregg show you get up, sing and groove. This a ain't no damn funeral we at a revival. Shake your moneymaker.
