Lamar’s first show in Pittsburgh was 8/24/73@Three Rivers Stadium.
I was at the show. The ABB opened with Wasted Words. They played 2 sets. Boz Scaggs was the opening act, and Les Dudek was his guitar player. Les also played on Ramblin Man and Jessica that evening.
Is there any way I could get a recording from you? That was my first ABB show.
They played the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh 7/11/1974. Hittin the Note is incorrect stating the show was at Three Rivers Stadium.
The show at the Civic Arena was July 1974. I believe you can find it in the ABB set lists (though the song order is probably not correct). They opened with Wasted Words, and the roof opened. They had 2 sets, and they closed the roof at half time, with the claim being sound problems. July 2004 was not Lamar’s first tour, for I seen them at Three Rivers Stadium 8/24/1973. Brothers & Sisters was new then.
Again, they opened with Wasted Words on 8/24/1973. They did 2 sets that evening as well (the set list is not correct). Boz Scaggs was the opening band. Les Dudek was his guitar player. Les sat in on Ramblin Man and Jessica, as he does on the album.
I hope this helps!
I was fifteen yrs old, i remember the concert as one of the best and i have seen a lot in my 48yrs. Thanks, Eric R.
It’s “unusual” to start with RAMBLIN’ MAN because it’s obvious that the first couple of numbers are probably missing from the recording that’s in circulation. My guess is they opened with WASTED WORDS, then did DONE SOMEBODY WRONG, ONE WAY OUT and STORMY MONDAY. Maybe a more complete recording will pop up one day. However the recording that I have is quite nice for what it is!!
This was my first time ever at a rock concert. It was an awsome experience ! I swear that Dickey’s guitar was so loud that I got permanant hearing damage as a result ! “You Don’t Love Me ” was awsome even without Duane.
P. S. HAD A LARGE CONFEDERATE FLAG WHILE I WAS ON THE TABLE AND GREGG MADE A COMMENT THAT SOME FRIENDS FROM HOME MUST BE HERE.
SOMRWHERE THERE IS A SHOW AT THE CIVIC ARENA THAT I WAS AT BUT CAN NOT FIND IT LISTED… ME AND TWO FRIENDS JOE AND JACKIE HITCHRD A RIDE . DRANK A FIFTH OF VODKA AND ENDED UP ON THE MIXING TABLE ON THE FLOOR. WAS MIXING FOR A LOCAL BAND AND TALKED MY WAY ON TABLE. REMEMBER WASTED WORDS OPENED AND LAMAR WAS ON HIS FIRST TOUR. KILLER SHOW REMEMBER RAMBLIN MAN. HAD A PHOTO OF GREGG ON WASTED WORDS BUT SOLD IT TO A COLLECTOR ALONG WITH TICKET STUB. ANYONE OUT THERE WHO CAN VERIFY?
I was at this show. Was a big “date” night. Venue was Three Rivers Stadium, for sure.
this show was at 3 rivers – have photos of show – I remember friends and I lifting up the covering they had on the plastic gr*****, to check out the playing surface. Boz Skaggs was openning act

Agree with jimm46 and RandyGalvan. The database is wrong. The 1974 show was at the Civic Arena. The roof opened just as the Allman Brothers began their set. The Three Rivers event was in 1973.
