John Hammond opened with a solo set. When the ABB came on Gregg walked out with some kind of mirror finished electric guitar and they kicked off Wasted Words. Dickey was in great form and I’d never heard enybody play a piano like Chuck. The coliseum was always very boomy and this night was no exception. I remember in my haste to get there I didn’t eat and the bass line was rattling my empty stomach. The first of many times I’ve seen them and maybe the most memorable. Keep Rockin’
One thing I can recall about this show was that John Hammond opened for the ABB. One of, if not, the first shows I heard with Lamar and Chuck in the band. Very different for me since I had been such a huge B.O. fan, but Lamar impressed me with his big sound and brilliant playing. Oh yeah, and that piano player kicked ass!
