the infamous show with Zakk Wylde subbing for the great Dickey Betts!!! August 1, 1993.....
Apparently Dickey was in jail for the day, so the Brothers needed a quick replacement. Both Jack Pearson and Dave Grissom were unable to make it (as well as Jimmy Herring). So a quick phone call to Ozzy's current guitarist assured everybody that the show shall go on!!!
You can read about the entire incredible story in Alan Paul's book ONE WAY OUT. But now you can also hear all the fun, the way it went down. Hear Zakk wail on "Dreams" and "Whipping Post" and almost every other song! I actually like Zakk's heavy metal-esque interpretations of the tunes. Many do not. I vined this out years ago so not a first but still a needed gesture.
This show gets bashed so much and yet it is one of my most requested shows in all my years of trading.
Zakk gets bashed around here for playing with the ABB with less than 24 hours notice. 99% of players would not even consider it. Is his sound and playing heavier than the ABB? Of course it is. Did he do the ABB a favor and get a chance to play with some of his idols? Yes.
Much of Zakk's solos from this show are lifted directly from the Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush Live album. One of Zakk's favorites and you can tell.
