In this age of political correctness, civil discourse is frowned upon. On top of that, I have never seen anyone have that "a-ha" moment where they have seen the others side point of view and changed their mind about anything.

This is an excellent point. I came to this same conclusion 20 or so years ago on a hot topic in this country that I feel passionate about. I argued with anyone I could, presented my facts, even wrote a letter to the editor - then realized, I am changing no ones position, no one is changing mine, what is the point, I'll vote the way I do, you vote the way you want, end of story.

There are only so many things I can control, knowing the difference is the key.

I can control my destiny and mine alone and I am at peace with that.
