Well, okay - so long as your mission was to destroy democracy, divide the population, take away healthcare (didn't you say you were going to REPLACE it with ... something?), incite violence and mayhem, and burn your own political party to the ground - then by all means, congratulations!

Now, don't go away mad - just go the FUCK away! I hope the next time we see you your new title will be, "defendant".

This was just a sand box to play in, while filling the pockets of his awful children. No new health care for everyone, no new infrastructure, just a brain washed cult of personality that almost overran democracy.

I'm 74 and on government healthcare.  Socialist healthcare eliminating private healthcare is not good.  Socialism in any part of the economy is unamerican.  Biden hopes to have a public option for those who need it yet protect private healthcare.  Many union workers went through a lot to have the outstanding healthcare they have through their employer.  I have a friend who retired from Norfolk Southern Railway and his healthcare plan is excellent and no waiting at all as people have to in Canada and the UK. A friend who loves the ABB and Duane Allman who lives in Ireland told me yesterday that there the waiting is ridiculous and when you finally get the surgery you want or need, the care is just so so.

Today we have socialists on the far left such as Senator Sanders,  Senator Markey and AOC and the congressional squad and others and far right Trumpers. Hopefully just a fraction of the 75 million who voted for Trump are like the people who stormed the Capitol.  Indeed I know a few Catholic and Evangelical Christians who held their nose and voted for Trump in 16 and 20 because of the judges, gay marriage, abortion, open borders and a Wimpy military.

Probably I won't live much longer but I hope my younger friends here on this site won't ever have to face the control of their lives and loss of freedom and the America we know and love that will come if socialists or right wing fanatics take control of this country.

@robertdee you're overstating the "threat" of socialism, it's a lie that right-wing media has perpetuated. Government healthcare you benefit from is a form of socialism. My brother lives in Spain and his health care is affordable and accessible. He tried explaining the concept of "in network" doctors to people in Spain and they thought he was making it up.

Ok then.

@robertdee  I love reading your commentary on music and music history.  I do think you need to bone-up on "socialism", though.  I've said this before - I cannot, for the life of me understand how ANYBODY receiving Social Security benefits, unemployment insurance or disability could even POSSIBLY consider supporting the now out-going administration.  These are benefits that workers PAY FOR over their entire working lives!  This is not the government's money (ANY administration) to be stingy with!  FYI - those roads you drive on, the Fire and Police departments - those are most certainly "socialistic" programs!  And, to the "Evangelic Right" I point out that Jesus Christ was the ORIGINAL socialist!  HE didn't take five loaves and two fish and open a restaurant - he divided equally among the hungry people!

Porkchopbob.  You're my friend and I continue to enjoy your videos occasionally.  The programs we enjoy in America now are social programs and they can be expanded to include younger people if they want to sign up. But as Congressman Jim Clyburn D SC said when he pleaded with South Carolina voters to reject Senator Sanders and support Biden and it was the turning point of Biden's quest for the White House.  Representative Clyburn informed the voters that in America we have socialism in the form of taxpayer funded programs but we have NEVER allowed socialism to take over parts of our economy such as healthcare or pharmaceutical or energy as Sanders and others have advocated.

Plus what about the people such as my buddy Barry who is 74 and retired from Norfolk Southern Railway and gets excellent healthcare coverage? Or the auto worker at Ford who is a union member and has a fabulous healthcare plan negotiated on behalf of Ford employees?

Don't you agree with Biden that private healthcare should not be abolished for those who like their plan and can afford it or its provided for them by their employer?

Under Biden private healthcare will continue as will fracking on private land. A moderate approach.  The far left of my party wants to take down Trump's border wall. Biden says he won't build another foot but leave what is there there. They want to ban fracking everywhere.  Ban oil and gas exports and outlaw gas cars. Biden won't ban anything. By 2035 all new cars will be electric but you won't have the car you have now banned. Socialist and Far Right extremists want to ban your stuff and tell you how to live.

Trump's Wednesday farewell speech was just Trump being Trump.

CNN called it "repulsive" and Fox called it "gracious". I just see it as typical Trump and predictable. Nothing new.

The meaningful coverage and important news going forward will be that of a new administration. We can call take some relief in that.

@robertdee Agree, and glad we can have civil discussions. The far-right has used "socialism" as a boogeyman, just as Joe McCarthy once did, and the fear of taking peoples' private health care as a straw man argument. It's never been about taking private health care away, the goal is to get affordable health care to everyone. AOC and Bernie are just 1 Senator and 1 Congresswoman, and the fears of losing private health care are over-stated and sensationalized.

While we are on healthcare, take the ACA - rather than a shift towards socialism many would say it showed too much favor for the insurance industry. It benefitted some individuals and burdened some others. I'm not sure if anything ever creates wins across the board. Such is life.

What some representatives want and what is possible aren't the same thing.

Thanks porkchopbob.  Of course we can and should have civil conversations. I'm a pacifist and was shocked by what happened at the Capitol and was disappointed and horrified that people burned police cars, looted and burned stores and ripped down statues they didn't like last summer. Dr. King would not endorse such behavior.

Friday was was in the big music store here and saw Martin and Taylor acoustics for over a thousand dollars and a beautiful Gibson Les Paul for 2,900.00 dollars.  Also noticed a black Squire Stratocaster by Fender ( that is on the headstock) for 156 dollars!!! Guess I can sound like Jack Pearson for 156 dollars? What a deal!!!

@nebish

Creating a "public" option for a private industry is an uphill battle and the biggest opponent is optics. The ACA felt like a half measure towards a larger problem, which is the industry itself, but it did help a large population of people. Opponents rang the "socialism" bell, but private insurance rates are adjusted/inflated to cover other private insurance costs. Every still pays for someone else's health care whether it's a public or private option.

@porkchopbob What about those Taylor guitar? I hear that are fine guitars. If I were serious about a Squire Stratocaster I would takes Jack's advice and make sure it was made in Singapore.  They have a Squire Fender pack for 380 dollars.  Guitar, case, amp etc. Probably a good deal for someone needed to buy a starter set for a 13 year old.

I'm told the Epiphone guitar by Gibson is a good lower priced instrument both acoustic and electric.

Looks beautiful

good riddance donald. Hope you get what you deserve

as a health care provider, I can spend a great deal of time recounting the numerous problems of private insurance and Medicare both. They both are severely flawed

regardless, health care is a right not a privelege. People shouldn’t have to decide between meds and food.
and unlike those guitars, if you are sick you often can’t shop around for the best deal on a hospital to treat your heart attack, stroke, or life threatening infection, or decide if you want the expensive stent or the cheap stent. Nor should you. The Free market system that most of us believe in doesn’t work in health care

anyway, as Bill Maher said Trump, pack your shit and go

welcome Joe. Good luck and Godspeed

Thought I would jump in on healthcare.  Although I was in management, the health insurance I enjoyed was negotiated by the union.  I made sure I thanked them when I retired.  I had great insurance through the company, and now I am on Medicare.  Luckily my wife is still covered on their insurance because she is younger than me and not eligible for Medicare yet.  I was very lucky.

Unfortunately, that same company now has informed all new employees and all management employees under 40 that they will no longer have retiree health insurance.  Union still gets it for now, at least until the next contract negotiation.

So I wouldn't always count on all that great insurance negotiated by unions to be there in the future.

I agree with stormy, healthcare should be a right not a privilege.  I agree that insurance shouldn't necessarily be tied to if you have a good job or not. I took a trip to Eastern Europe a couple of years ago, and there were 11 Canadians on our trip.  They loved their healthcare, and thought we were nuts.  My brother-in-law's luggage was lost, and it took him a week into our trip to get it.  Of course, his prescriptions (except for 2 days worth) were in that luggage.  They had a doctor come to his hotel room in Budapest, who checked him out and then went to a pharmacy and got him the prescriptions.  The cost?  90 euros for the visit, and about $7 a piece for a months supply of each prescription, which cost him about $50 each in the US.

My level of care has not gone down because I am on Medicare.

That is a beautiful Martin Martin D28. What is great guitar. The guy at the guitar store here told me last week the best acoustics are made by Martin, Taylor, Preston and mentioned a few others. Left out Gibson which clearly is a top brand too.

He wasn't familiar with Jack Pearson and strongly advised me not to purchase a cheap Squire Stratocaster by Fender. They are the dirt cheap Strats and Teles made in. Asia and this Pearson guy has to be pulling my leg. And if this Jack Pearson guy is actually playing a Squire Stratocaster and is using one that he paid just $87 dollars for and it sounds real good...then Pearson claiming its stock except for a volume knob change is simply pulling people's legs and has to be joking. If it says Squire by Fender it is cheap woods, cheap pickups and cheap everything. And not to let him fool me.

Yes I want everyone to have good healthcare but don't socialise healthcare.  Too many people have private insurance that like that is better than Medicare.  I have Medicare and have a 20% donut hole that I pay AARP Supplemental 125 dollars a month to plug. The company I retired with did not offer healthcare coverage for people eligible for Medicaid.

Jack Pearson with a $113 dollar Squire Stratocaster by Fender guitar he bought made in Singapore.  Says he didn't change a thing on it. I believe him. Also to me Jack Pearson is the best guitar player alive today.

Check this out porkchopbob.  He puts the glass on his finger!!!!

@sang  "Socialized Medicine" - I guess that sounds scary to some.  Like "communism" or something.  I don't know much about any of that kind of stuff.  I did know two people who died horrible deaths because they simply could not afford to go to a doctor.

One had brain cancer and was on a long waiting list for care and medicine at a county run "mercy" hospital.  He never, ever received treatment past his initial diagnosis.  He spent his last weeks writhing on the floor screaming in pain.  I could cast a few value judgements as to how he came to be in his final situation, but that would be cruel and unproductive.  Bottom line - nobody - not even a mongrel dog should die like that.

I have a couple of family members who have some very "special needs" children.  These kids require care and medicine that would break some very wealthy people.  I am all for some sort of "socialized medicine".  It's just the right thing to do.

@rusty that's awful, not at all how the system should work.

A lot of people opposed to the ACA said they didn't want to pay for someone else's health care, which goes back to a point I made in another thread regarding selfish ignorance. They didn't understand how health insurance works nor its faults, they didn't understand how the ACA was funded or works, and were more outraged by the idea of their tax money going to someone's health than they did about someone else's suffering. Same logic of the "masks rob me of my freedom" and "I'm storming my capitol" people. I me mine.

So many people are scared of things that they are unfamilair with as you have indicated. Not just healthcare either. Same goes for the fears of the dreaded "socialsim". People takes their ques and listen to misinformation sources taking them as the gospel. They listen to politicians & tv pundits manipulating for votes, who selfishly steer individuals down paths of believing & voting against their own self interest.

@cyclone88  I wish that I could see Trump looking into a mirror and asking himself, "did I leave things better than I found them?"  I wonder if he has the compassion or decency to even think like this.

Funny, I heard it was the Beatles’ I’ll Be Back 😝😀✌️hehe, just a joke

yep that’s pretty corny & hokey alright🤮 - too funny - actually Trump was quoted somewhere, Wash Post I think, that “we’ll be back in some form” - bad idea imo - his own VP & staunchest allies distanced themselves from him in the final weeks - I would say, call it good, Mr. Trump

However, Arnold Schwarzenegger once intoned, “I’ll Be Back” - never can tell what’ll happen😮🥴🤷‍♂️

too bad it wasn’t Elvis’ version of My Way  - ‘Donald has left the building’

—————

“my fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over” - Gerald Ford, Aug. 1974

now the nightmare of the last 4 years is over, detractors/naysayers say, & it would be nice to look forward w/positivity, naive as that may be

Trump gave a speech at Joint Andrews Airbase before he flew to Florida stating all the things he got accomplished.  Energy independence from foreign oil. Lowest unemployment for blacks, Latinos and women.  Record stock market. Dealt with China ripping us off. Moved the capital of Israel to Jerusalem.  Secured our Southern border with 450 miles of wall. Etc, etc, etc. Thanked his staff for helping him achieve one of the most successful presidential terms in US history etc etc.  Trump is excellent at spin and promoting Trump.  He has a 74 million following similar to a cult.

You guys aren't as old as me. We were taught to fear socialism and communism in public school in the 1950's and 60's. Lots of anti socialism and communism films shown in school. How to duck and hide when the socialists drop an atomic bomb on us. How to know where the nearest Civil Defense fallout shelter is located and how many can shelter there for 30 days.  This was during the Eisenhower and JFK and LBJ administrations.  There was even a man on some of the films that said " I'd rather be dead than red". I was in the first grade in 1953. By 1957 we also saw films on parents that hurt and abuse their children. On how to spot a homosexual and that homosexuals are sick. That old film is on YouTube.

Yes people in my generation were taught to hate socialism by the United States government in the public schools. We would stand every morning and face the American flag and say the pledge of allegiance.

I can't think of ONE instance where socialism works and where it does not take away individual freedom, rights and self determination.

Look at the Green New Deal. It cuts out private ownership of business and gives it to the workers who are partnered with the federal government.  Tell you where to live, how to heat and cool your dwelling,  what and when you drive, how you are allowed to own cows due to methane. Discourage air travel and encourage high speed electric rail. Run your healthcare and mandate and regulate so much of your life. They want to legalize marijuana but ban your Dodge charger. Taxes, regulations, rules out the wazola!

Thank the Lord Joe Biden won and not a socialist.  Biden said on the stump " I am not going to ban fracking and gas cars!!! No matter what Trump says. Do I look like SOCIALIST?? Come on man".

The people in South Florida and California and China Town in New York City think the socialists in congress and the 56 percent of young Democrats are NUTS!! Socialism is WHY they fled Cuba, China, Vietnam,  Venezuela etc and came to America. Who in their right mind would want America to become a socialist country?  As Biden laid out running against Trump.  " I won. The socialist lost. I'm not a socialist!!"
